My son in law solved the channel problem for me. He purchased for approx. $25 a Roku device with remote & hooked it up to my 2014 Vizio 48" smart TV. I get all I need with it & usually more than I want.
Thank goodness I sleep during the early morning hours I get irritated at the programs on TV in the evenings would hate to try early morning..

The cable company has to give you basic tier local channels at a great discount most people don’t know it, but they have to buy law
